Contract duration: 6 Months PAYE only

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst for a major Customer Screening project within a broader Integrated Financial Crime Change Programme at a large financial institution.

The role assesses current-state customer sanctions screening capability across First and Second Lines of Defence, identifying gaps and defining requirements across screening effectiveness, data quality, data lineage, vendor arrangements and account-restriction controls.

This role works across businesses and functions, partnering closely with screening operations, Financial Crime Compliance, Technology, Data, vendors and Change.

The successful candidate will combine strong business analysis discipline with sanctions change experience, producing clear, traceable outputs that support implementation and sustainable improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Support the Customer Screening project from current-state assessment and requirements definition through testing, implementation readiness and closure.

Core accountabilities:

  • Assess current-state customer screening processes, controls, ownership, hand-offs, systems and data dependencies across First and Second Lines of Defence.

  • Document and analyse screening effectiveness, data quality, data lineage, vendor arrangements and account-restriction controls.

  • Elicit, document and validate business, control, data and technology requirements.

  • Perform gap and root-cause analysis, distinguishing process, control, data, technology and operating-model issues.

  • Maintain traceability from identified gap through requirement, solution, testing and closure evidence.

  • Produce process maps, control maps, data-flow documentation, requirements and decision-ready analysis.

  • Support solution design, testing, implementation readiness and stakeholder acceptance.

  • Identify risks, issues, dependencies and decisions, escalating material concerns promptly.

Candidate Profile

An experienced Business Analyst combining sanctions change knowledge with rigorous analysis and documentation.

Essential Experience

  • Substantial experience supporting sanctions, financial crime or screening change in a large financial institution.

  • Experience of current-state assessment, requirements definition, process and control mapping and gap analysis.

  • Understanding of customer screening processes and their operational, data and technology dependencies.

  • Experience maintaining traceability across analysis, delivery, testing and implementation.

  • Effective engagement across business, compliance, operations, technology, data, vendors and change stakeholders.

  • Strong written communication, facilitation, problem-solving and attention to detail.

Highly Desirable

Experience in one or more of the following:

  • Customer sanctions screening and screening effectiveness assessment.

  • Data quality, data lineage, customer or reference data remediation.

  • Screening vendor arrangements, rule configuration or technology transformation.

  • Account restriction controls, testing support or implementation readiness.

Key Capabilities

  • Structure complex analysis: turn broad regulatory, process and control questions into clear analytical work products.

  • Elicit and define requirements: draw out stakeholder needs and convert them into precise, testable requirements and acceptance criteria.

  • Maintain traceability: connect findings, requirements, controls, changes, testing and closure evidence.

  • Challenge constructively: test assumptions, identify gaps and distinguish root causes from symptoms.

  • Operate across boundaries: work effectively across businesses, functions and lines of defence.

  • Communicate clearly: produce concise, decision-ready analysis for specialists, delivery leads and senior stakeholders.

What Success Looks Like

The Customer Screening project is supported by clear, decision-ready analysis with:

  • A well-evidenced current-state assessment and defined screening gaps.

  • Complete, prioritised and testable requirements with clear ownership.

  • End-to-end traceability across findings, remediation, testing and closure.

  • High-quality artefacts that enable timely decisions and implementation readiness.

The role suits someone equally comfortable working through detailed screening and data issues with specialists and presenting concise findings to senior stakeholders.

This is a hands-on analysis role. The successful candidate will create clarity, maintain rigorous traceability and help convert complex screening issues into implementable change.

Depending on your team, typically this means that colleagues spend a minimum of between 20% to 60% of their time in the office, which could be over a week, a month or a quarter. However, some colleagues may choose to spend more time in the office over a typical period than their role type requires. Barclays also has a flexible working process where, subject to business needs, all colleagues globally are able to request work patterns to reflect their personal circumstances
