Job title: Senior Engineer

Location: London - E14

Contract length: 6 Month 

Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday 37 Hours ( Hybrid - Days in the office depend on workload)


Barclays Bank PLC are currently recruiting for a Senior Engineer to join them on a 6 Month contract, there is a potential that this may get extended or go Permanent. The Senior Engineer will sit within the FICC Risk and Pricing Technology team. This team comprises 1000+ colleagues situated across major centre’s of the UK, USA, Czech Republic, India, Singapore and Tokyo. They are accountable for the delivery of Macro Risk and Pricing across end of day and intraday. The key element of this role is to drive Automation, streamlining current systems, making them more cost effective and an overall smoother running entity. 


About Streaming Pricing


The Streaming Pricing function is responsible for providing live, tradable prices for Fixed Income and FX products globally to support and facilitate market making. High speed electronic trading platforms require responding to changes in market levels quickly and accurately. To achieve this, traders provide business models that allow them to re-price their instruments independently of other dealers. 

Success as a dealer is a function of how well you can achieve this compared to your competition.

Our domain covers platforms responsible for:

Rates (FI and EM), FX and Repo Pricing and Curve Generation – live and end of day.

Live price streams supporting standard and customized RFQs originating from TradeWeb and Bloomberg Pre-deal analytics Intraday risk and P&L (Decom path)

Today our systems cover G11 and EM currencies, support 150+ traders globally, provide pricing and risk coverage across multiple business areas: Rates, Credit, Index Derivatives, Repo, Securitized Products, Sales, Treasury and FX Derivatives.


Key Responsibilities of the Senior Engineer:


  • Eliminate manual processes through innovation and automation.

  • Ensure the reliability, availability and performance of applications in production.

  • Identify and deliver green-field engineering solutions for issues based on root cause analysis

  • Own and drive tactical and strategic solutions.

  • Containerising invest pricing platforms.

  • Working on a real time platform 

  • Bug fixing 

  • “Greenfield” or Streamlining current system to lessen tickets and Support questions 

  • Stabilize/ Minimize issues on a day to day basis

  • Working closely with the Trade team 

  • “SRE” Site Reliability Engineer 

  • Challenge the status quo

  • Strong analytic problem solving skills

  • Analysing trading requirements and translating into IT system enhancements


Key Skills/ Experience required for the Senior Engineer:


  • Strong communication skills, with experience working with multiple stakeholders at all seniority levels

  • Experience working with a diverse set of stakeholders across multiple business areas and regions

  • Degree level qualification

  • Excellent communication skills to be able to work in a global environment with colleagues and business stakeholders. Accountability and ownership of end to end business deliverables is critical.

  • Scripting skills (e.g. Python)

  • Experience developing on large codebases

  • Knowledge of database and/or messaging technologies (SQL, Solace)

  • Understanding of investment banking/fixed income products particularly Swaps and cash flow generation.

  • Practical knowledge of containers and how best to apply to existing systems.
