Overall purpose of role:

To maintain responsibility for the completion of the daily processes and controls of the middle offices which form part of Equities and Equity Derivatives. This will include ensuring the full execution and control framework as defined by the firm’s control standards and IBMO control policies are adhered to and are operating effectively. To be the day to day business contact for the trading desks for market and client side activities. To work with global IBMO management, global front office management and various infrastructure partners to ensure there are effective communication channels to deliver the optimal support model in order to manage the risks associated with each desk.

 

Key Accountabilities:
 

  • To provide Middle Office support and exception management to the Cash Equity and Equity Derivative businesses in EMEA.
  • Root cause analysis to remediate issues at source to streamline the end to end booking model.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all pertinent metrics are captured and accurately reported daily to the IBMO dashboard and Hypercube and discussed within the weekly KRIs meetings for Risk and Control purposes.
  • The role holder will be participating in the RCSA process for the desks and processes they support which will also include working closely with Risk & Control. They will be required to ensure that ineffective processes are flagged accordingly and strategic solutions are sought. 
  • Escalate any aged or high risk items across the suite of reconciliations and control reports the team receives and will in turn need to ensure that these are flagged to senior management.    
  • Ensure adherence to the one-sided trade escalation policy, perform yearly Rec Logic and Completeness Reviews as well as meeting the RCSA obligations.
  • Ensuring controls are adhered to, and streamlining existing processes for increased control and maximum efficiency.
  • To actively engage with Trading / Lifecycle Management / Trade Capture Utility / Trade Control to ensure a sustainable support model is in place for the businesses end to end.
  • To be able to present solutions with regard to new business initiatives or mandatory market changes and how these are facilitated through the system architecture whilst assessing the impact to the booking model both from a local and cross regional perspective in relation to the back to back model for European and International clients.
  • Creating project feasibility and gap analysis in turn translating them into business requirements and functional specification documents
    Support project delivery including involvement in testing schedules – Review test packs, perform UAT / regression testing, raise any issues and enhancements with IT and the Global Project team.
  • Provide project update and build ongoing relationships with stakeholders to effectively manage expectations.
  • Review and complete yearly Reconciliation Logic & Completeness reviews to ensure the scope of the reconciliation is appropriate, meets the current business requirements and reduces the risk it was designed to mitigate.
  • Identifying control gaps within EU risk and control framework and actively work to fill the gaps by implementing controls by creating reconciliation report to upload on Hypercube to capture aged and risk breaks to report to management.
  • Prepare and maintain key procedures for BAU tasks according to Barclays policy.

 

Person Specification:
 

  • Good knowledge of the front-to-back process in an investment banking environment.
  • Solid understanding of operational risks, ability to spot and articulate issues to senior stakeholders, and escalate in a timely manner.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office suite, specifically Excel.  
  • Ability to analyse data and identify risk item exceptions.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to multi-task with ability to work under pressure to observe the deadline.
  • The role is suitable for candidates who are detail-oriented with strong communication both written and verbal skills. 
  • Able to manage various tasks throughout the day, including Projects, UAT, BAU
  • Maintain excellent relationship with Global project management teams, TCU teams, Lifecycle
  • Management Sales, Compliance, Product Control, IT and various Middle Office/Operations Groups to ensure smooth running of projects

 

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:
 

  • Equity and equity derivative product knowledge.
  • A general understanding of the settlement process for Equities & Derivatives.
  • The role is suitable for candidates who are detail-oriented with strong communication both written and verbal skills. 
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to multi-task and the ability to work under pressure to observe deadlines.
  • Degree level with experience gained in a similar banking environment.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office suite, specifically Excel.  
  • Good knowledge of the front-to-back process in an investment banking environment.
  • Able to work autonomously whilst striving towards a wider team goal
