Product Designer

Location: London,UK

Duration: 6 months

Overall purpose of the role:

As a Product Designer within our Payments and Lending team, you will be joining one of the largest and most dynamic design cohorts. You will be responsible for shaping the future of how millions of customers interact with their money—specifically focusing on cards, loans, and payment journeys.

Your mission is to bridge the gap between complex business requirements and intuitive user experiences. You will design for our core digital channels, ensuring that every transaction on our mobile app and desktop platforms is seamless, secure, and user-centric.

Key Accountabilities:

  • End-to-End Design Delivery: Manage the full UX/UI lifecycle from initial discovery and wireframing to high-fidelity prototyping and final delivery.

  • Complex Problem Solving: Translate high-level business requirements from Product Managers into logical customer journeys and flows that simplify the complexities of financial services.

  • System Integration: Work extensively within our bespoke design system, ensuring consistency across all platforms while contributing to its evolution.

  • Risk & Regulation Management: Navigate the challenges of a highly regulated environment by identifying potential risks and ensuring all designs meet stringent regulatory expectations.

  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with cross-functional teams, including Product, Engineering, and Risk, to advocate for the user while balancing commercial goals.

  • Holistic Research: Work closely with external research teams or conduct independent research to validate designs, perform testing, and iterate based on real user data.

Key Skills:

  • Financial Expertise: Significant experience in Banking or Financial Services is essential. You should have a deep understanding of transactional payments, lending products, and emerging trends like crypto/blockchain.

  • Design Tools: Mastery of Figma is a must, alongside a sophisticated understanding of how to work with and contribute to large-scale design systems.

  • Corporate Experience: Proven track record of delivering impactful work within a large corporate environment, demonstrating the resilience and patience required for long-term product development cycles.

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong experience designing for both mobile (iOS/Android) and desktop web experiences.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: A solid understanding of risk frameworks and the ability to design for "worst-case" scenarios in a regulated landscape.

  • Strategic Thinking: A "holistic" designer mindset—someone who doesn't just push pixels but understands the research, the business logic, and the long-term impact of their work.

  • A strong portfolio is required, showcasing meaningful projects that have been designed and delivered to market. We are looking for "hands-on" designers who can demonstrate deep knowledge of the products they have built.

About Barclays

Barclays is a British universal bank. It is diversified by business, by different types of customers and clients, and by geography. Barclays businesses include consumer banking and payments operations around the world, as well as a top-tier, full service, global corporate and investment bank, all of which are supported by its service company which provides technology, operations and functional services across the Group.

Values

Everything Barclays does is shaped by its five values of Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence and Stewardship. The Barclays values inform the foundations of its relationships with customers and clients, but they also shape how Barclays measures and rewards the performance of colleagues. Simply put, success is not just about what you achieve, but about how you achieve it.

Diversity

Barclays aims to foster a culture where individuals of all backgrounds feel confident in bringing their whole selves to work, feel included and their talents are nurtured, empowering them to contribute fully to Barclays vision and goals.

Hybrid Working

Barclays is currently in the early stages of implementing a hybrid working environment, which means that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. Barclays is flexible on how this works and it may continue to change and evolve. Depending on your team, typically this means that colleagues spend a minimum of between 20% to 60% of their time in the office, which could be over a week, a month or a quarter. However, some colleagues may choose to spend more time in the office over a typical period than their role type requires. Barclays also has a flexible working process where, subject to business needs, all colleagues globally are able to request work patterns to reflect their personal circumstances
