Office of Chief Compliance Officer

Overall purpose of role

The role is a key position supporting in the broader activities of the Barclays Europe (BE) Chief Compliance Office. In addition to supporting the BE Chief Compliance Officer (BE CCO) on a variety of issues, the BE Chief Compliance Office is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the BE Compliance Management Team (BE CMT) and, the BE Compliance Risk Management (BE CRM) meeting which supports the BE CCO in overseeing of risks and issues across BE. The BE Chief Compliance Office also provides Compliance support and guidance on Executive level queries; participates in a range of firm-wide processes, on behalf of the BE CCO; supports managing engagements with the BE ExCo members and the Company Secretary; and, supports in managing Compliance’s contribution to BE and BE Board level committees, forums and stakeholders, by ensuring any materials submitted are appropriate and the BE CCO is sufficiently briefed on all relevant matters

Key Accountabilities

  • Providing one-to-one support for the BE CCO in day-to-day operational matters; engagements with BE ExCo, BE Company Secretary; and providing relevant briefings;

  • Acting as the secretary for the BE CRM and BE CMT meetings;

  • Coordinating, managing and producing (as appropriate) all BE Compliance contributions to relevant BE and BE Board-level committees, forums and stakeholders;

  • Maintaining management processes and supporting MI and governance frameworks to support the BE CCO in discharging his / her Senior Executive Management Responsibilities;

  • Provide support and guidance on Executive level queries;

  • Co-ordinating Compliance input and sign off for the Barclays Europe Annual Report and, ICAAP;

  • Supporting the BE CCO to articulate and execute strategy and vision for the BE Compliance function, taking into account the Group Compliance Strategy; and managing the BE Compliance Annual Planning process including tracking deliverables and providing updates to the BE Board Risk Committee;


Essential Skills

  • Willingness to challenge processes and look for improvements

  • Able to work on own initiative, and solution oriented

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to be clear and concise both orally and in writing

  • Experience in report writing 

  • Strong team player with an ability to interact and work well with all stakeholders

  • Experience of working in an area of high regulatory focus
