Overall Purpose of the Role
We are seeking a seasoned and resilient Programme Director to lead the delivery of a portfolio of complex business change and transformation initiatives at Barclays. This individual will act as the Deputy to the hiring manager, overseeing high-impact programmes at varying stages of maturity — from in-flight delivery to programme closure.
The successful candidate will be pivotal in shaping delivery strategy, ensuring execution against Group ExCo-level standards, and managing multi-dimensional change in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the delivery of multi-million-pound business change programmes across risk, digital credentialing, and organisational transformation
Operate as deputy to a senior Managing Director, with visibility across multiple workstreams
Ensure programme governance, status reporting, and risk mitigation are executed to the highest standard
Engage with stakeholders at senior leadership level, including Managing Directors and ExCo-level executives
Navigate and stabilise complex delivery environments with ambiguous and shifting priorities
Drive end-to-end delivery including planning, budgeting, milestone tracking, and benefits realisation
Identify and manage unconnected risks and dependencies impacting programme success
Embed best practices for change delivery, with strong process discipline and a hands-on delivery mindset
Key Skills:
Extensive experience in financial services is essential
Proven track record delivering large-scale, cross-functional transformation programmes
Strong grasp of risk, control, and governance in large organisations
Ability to lead business transformation (not just tech-led change)
Resilient, calm under pressure, and adept at working through complex stakeholder and governance structures
