What will you be doing?

Overall purpose of role

This role will be focused on:

1)     Supporting and managing delivery of multiple global firm- wide requirements in respect of reporting and financial impacts relating to contentious matters managed by Legal, including public disclosures

2)     Supporting and managing delivery of multiple global firm-wide requirements relating to Legal Principal Risk and risks applicable to the Legal Function

3)     Supervise and manage junior colleagues to support deliver of the above and the objectives of the LRGC team

 

Key Accountabilities

1)     Supporting and managing delivery of multiple global firm- wide requirements in respect of reporting and financial impacts relating to contentious matters managed by Legal, including public disclosures, including any of the following but not limited to:

·      Supporting and leading aspects of the planning, strategic execution and timely delivery of:

o Group and BB Board Audit Committee and BX Board Material Legal Contentious Matters Reports and associated meeting papers on behalf of the Group General Counsel and entity General Counsels

o Group, BB and BUK Legal Regulatory and Competition Matters and Legal Risk Notes and collation of litigation provisions for inclusion in Barclays Annual Report and Interim Results Announcements and any Q1 and Q3 disclosures as required, including relevant Group and entity General Counsel approvals and attestations

o External auditor requirements in relation to Annual Results Announcements and Interim Results Announcements, including relevant attestations and management rep letters

o Investor Relations packs and AGM information relating to contentious matters managed by Legal

o Various internal and Regulatory Capital planning and stress processes relating to conduct matters managed by Legal

o Monthly reporting relating to material Litigation and Conduct provisions

·      Helping to build strong relationships with other teams within the Legal function, including Litigation, Investigations & Enforcement, Competition, Financial Crime, EIP and GCTL Legal teams.

·      Liaise with entity General Counsels and their teams, Barclays Corporate Secretariat, Finance, Group Risk, Investor Relations, external auditors and UK and US external disclosure counsel as required

·      Supporting the Legal Risk, Governance and Control Leads throughout

 

2)     Supporting and managing delivery of multiple global firm-wide requirements relating to Legal Principal Risk and risks applicable to the Legal Function, including any of the following but not limited to:

·      Understanding the Group General Counsel’s risk and control responsibilities as Legal Risk Principal Owner and Head of the Legal Function

·      Supporting and leading aspects of the planning, strategic execution and timely delivery of:

o  Legal Risk and Legal Function Risk and Control Assessments (RCSAs)

o  Implementation of Barclays Control Framework

o  Controls Testing

o  Updates to the Risk and Control library

o  Quarterly LRGC entity reports

o  Board and Group Level Risk and Control committee papers

o  LExCo LRGC meeting papers

·      Acting as an SME in relation to the Legal Risk Policies, Barclays Control Framework and the Enterprise Risk Management Framework and manager of strategic solutions to risk and control issues

·      Assisting with targeted training in relation to Legal Risk and working collaboratively with Legal Policy owners and their delegates

·      Liaise with the Chief Controls Office (CCO) teams, Group Risk, Operational Risk, other Principal Risk teams and BIA as required in respect of requirements relating to Legal Principal Risk and risks applicable to the Legal Function.

·      Supporting the Legal Risk, Governance and Control Leads throughout

 

3)     Supervise and manage junior colleagues to support deliver of the above and the objectives of the LRGC team

·      Managing self and other junior colleagues across multiple activities, ensuring effective strategic timely delivery and execution with quality output

·      Support the priorities of the team and actively contribute to the team’s strategic objectives

·      Encouraging and empowering improvement in team members, including providing clear performance expectations and meaningful feedback

·      Promoting and facilitating collaboration between team members and beyond

·      Line management as required

·      Leading by example

·      Striving for excellence. Assist with putting processes in place to enable improvement and innovation. Convert and manage ideas into viable solutions

·      Supporting the Legal Risk, Governance and Control Leads throughout


What we’re looking for:


·      Degree or equivalent

·      Legal qualification

·      Quick learner with real attention to detail

·      Strong analytical skills and ability to think strategically

·      Comfortable engaging stakeholders (of all levels of seniority), excellent communication skills and proven ability to flex style and form strong, effective and influential relationships

·      Ability to take decisions autonomously, with limited supervision and have the skill to understand when to seek support

·      Delivery focused, working to high standards of performance with ability to juggle multiple demands, prioritise and work under pressure, delivering to quality output to tight deadlines 



Skills that will help you in the role:

·      Line Management experience

·      Experience working in first line or second line risk

·      Risk and control management

·      Experience working in-house in a Legal Function

·      Experience working within financial services industry

 

Where will you be working?

Remote, initially, and then London (if and when needed)
