Overall Purpose of Role:
The Data Privacy Compliance team (part of the wider Consumer Protection team) is responsible for, amongst other things:
Developing and maintaining the elements that comprise the Bank’s Data Privacy Framework;
Working with colleagues in Business Oversight Compliance, providing oversight of the implementation of Controls, and the identification and management of Data Privacy risk. This includes through, for example, check and challenge of Data Protection Impact Assessments;
Reviewing personal data breaches referred to Compliance by the first-line Data Privacy team to provide an independent view on whether these should be reported to DPAs, and then liaising with colleagues across Compliance, Legal and elsewhere to ensure the timely submission of the necessary information;
Liaising with DPAs in responding to complaints and requests for information and where required, consulting on Data Protection Impact Assessments.
Key Accountabilities:
Support the design, implementation and development of the Bank’s Data Privacy Framework, ensuring this reflects external best practice as this evolves;
Support BOC colleagues in their oversight of the Business, including in the timely identification and evaluation of Issues and Risk Events impacting personal data, by providing them with technical expertise on all aspects of Data Privacy (personal data breaches and other Risk Events; Data Protection and Data Transfer Impact Assessments and transfers of personal under the IGA oversight of ;
Act as the point of contact with the Information Commissioner’s Office for BUK, including overseeing responses to the ICO in relation to Complaints and Assessments;
Provide input into or otherwise support as appropriate, exercises to measure conformance, assurance, and reviews of Data Privacy
Essential Skills:
Strong technical knowledge of UK and other global Data Privacy Laws, Rules and Regulations, including a clear understanding of the General Data Protection Regulation, Privacy and Electornic Communications Regulations, and extensive experience of how these apply to activities conducted by a Financial Services organisation
Extensive experience of working in a role overseeing the identification and management of Data Privacy risk
Experience in engaging with regulatory authorities on Data Privacy matters (and covering responding to complaints from individuals, reportable personal data breaches, and experience in responding to civil and criminal investigations proceedings)
Ability to work effectively with global and regional Compliance colleagues in a matrix-reporting environment
Desirable Skills/Preferred Qualifications:
Professional Data Privacy Certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals or equivalent (such as BCS) is preferred.
Knowledge and understanding of wider compliance and risk management frameworks, and how Data Privacy fits within these
Ability to work effectively with global and regional Compliance colleagues
Familiarity with the use of Microsoft products e.g. Excel, PowerPoint would be an advantage
