Data Centre Infrastructure Technician
Locations: Slough
Length of contract: 6 months initially

Overall purpose of role:
The Datacentre Operations Technicians (DCOPS) role is to provide operational support for the Datacentre during a 24x7x365 schedule. The DCOPS tech will be responsible for addressing faults, incidents, and change requests which are reported to the DCOPS team via the ticket management system within designated SLA’s. Installs, Moves, and Changes will be implemented by the DCOPS tech based on work orders submitted to the IMAC team. The DCOPS tech also handles IT related shipments including recording and ensuring that all access requests are compliant with policy.
Key Accountabilities:
IMAC/Break-Fix activities
Racking and un-racking of devices according to IMAC plan/schedule
Connection of power cords from to devices to power outlets
Ensuring IMAC processes are followed according to procedure
Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware issues with servers and other devices
Incident/Change activities:
Immediate reaction and rectification of faults
Escalation to line management if fault cannot be rectified within SLAs
Documentation and reporting of all faults
Maintain dialogue with all interested parties during faults and changes (written and verbal)
Manage and maintain all problem records through to rectification/close
Report and manage any environmental problems to Service Operations and CRES team
Record all deliveries and collections at the site
Review and authorise datacentre related changes to assess impact on infrastructure
Review and respond to requests for access to the site ensuring centre security policy is strictly adhered to
Review and implement to changes requiring onsite activities, and ensure that change details are strictly adhered to
Media Handling:
Loading and unloading of backup media from backup systems
Sending and recalling media from offsite storage
Manage blank media storage and stock control
Team Working:
Flexibility between the Team is paramount to ensure that the correct level of coverage is sustained at all times
Liaise with in-house support groups for Barclays
Liaise with other onsite teams such as Security and ISS
Work with IMAC teams to ensure all planned activity is coordinated correctly
Maintain close working relationships with all Technical Teams at the Centre to ensure knowledge levels are sustained
Management Duties:
Ensure assigned all activities are actioned according to the DC working guidelines
Datacentre Inspection Management checks
Health and Safety responsibilities – ensuring your work area is safe
Crisis Manager in the event of incident at Centre out of core business hours (escalation to Shift Lead or DC Manager)
Fire Officer Responsibility 24 x 7 x 365 (Site dependent; not all sites will have this responsibility)
Governance:
Provide assistance in all audit, risk controls and attestation requirements.
Adhere to Barclay’s frameworks, policies and procedures applicable to role, demonstrating sound judgement and responsible risk management
Report all risk events/incidents/issues immediately upon discovery and escalate significant events/incidents/issues using the defined process for the datacentre
Proactively identify ways to improve the control environment by considering what could go wrong in the processes I operate and how errors could be prevented - focusing on fixing root causes and taking ownership of identified actions
All mandatory training completed to deadline
Person Specification:
Proficient in hardware operational skills for most systems within the Data Centre.
Proficient in operation of productivity software packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
Competent in racking and cabling server and switch equipment
Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:
Excellent communication skills
Knowledge of numerous hardware platforms, IT Infrastructure and interdependencies, such as Storage and SAN elements, Unix and Wintel computing platforms, Networking platforms, emerging technologies from both a distributed systems and Data Centre infrastructure level
Experience troubleshooting and repairing hardware issues at the server level
Understanding of change and/or incident management in a similar support function (has experience of supporting software tools
Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:
ITIL Foundation or better
Comptia Server+ qualification
Any other relevant certification.
